Is the B&W Companion Gooseneck 5th Wheel Hitch Compatible with the Sidewinder Pin Box?

Question:

I have a 2017 F350 dually long bed. It sets up a bit to high for the fifth wheel to set level unless I lower the Companion but then when I turn, the heal of the fifth wheel catches the rail on the pickup box. I believe the sidewinder, changing the pivot point making the fifth wheel tongue stationary will allow me to lower the companion making my fifth wheel level without the tongue swinging into the rail of my bed. I want to be sure the sidewinder is compatible with the Companion which mounts in my bed using the BandW gooseneck ball

Utilizing a Sidewinder will change the way your trailer turns but is not compatible with your 2017 Ford F350 dually long bed and B&W Companion Gooseneck Connected Hitch # BWRVK3500. The movement of the Sidewinder would be too much for the Gooseneck single connection point.

Since you have already adjusted the hitch, have you adjusted the height of your pin box? Often there is adjustment there that will allow for you to have level travel and no rail contact when using the hitch and pin box adjustments. If not, then I recommend determining your pin box number, which should be on a sticker on the pin box itself. This will give you the compatible pin box replacements and the Goose Box # RP85FR may be a compatible option. If you can't find that pin box number, I've attached an article to help with measuring for fit.

Another option is to raise the trailer using an over-under kit like # K71-384-00 for 3,500 lb axles or # K71-385-00 for larger axles with 3 inch diameter. This will raise your trailer by the diameter of the axle as well as the leaf spring stack height. This will give you the bed rail clearance and will allow you to adjust your Companion hitch for level transport.
