Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2017 GMC Terrain

Question:

I am attempting to flat tow my 2017 GMC Terrain. It does not have adaptive cruise control or shutters (active air?) which i heard can cause some stuff not to fit. So what parts do I need?

Flat towing your 2017 GMC Terrain without adaptive cruise control or active air shutters is going to require a number of parts; which I will list for you. And you were also correct that the active cruise control and air shutters does affect fit somewhat but everything I list is going to be compatible for your '17 Terrain that does NOT have those features.

- Base Plate Kit: Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-523184-5
- Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522
- Safety Chains: RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Fuse Bypass Kit # RM-76517 (if your Terrain is a 4-cylinder) OR Fuse Bypass Kit # RM76511 (if your Terrain is a V6)
- Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25
- Supplemental Braking System: SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251

Base plates are vehicle-specific and the Roadmaster Direct Connect are a fit for your '17 Terrain and will give your car a very solid connection with the accompanying tow bar. I have added a photo of these base plates installed on a 2017 Terrain so you can see how it is going to look on yours.

The Falcon tow bar is a great option because it is non-binding and has long arms which make it easier to maneuver when towing. The wiring kit is designed to effectively prevent electrical feedback to keep your Terrain's electrical system safe, and the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO supplemental braking system is highly recommended because it is a one-time install which you can leave in so you'll never have to deactivate or reactivate it.

It is also likely you will need a high-low adapter such as # RM-048-8 to keep your tow bar level with your tow vehicle. The adapter you need is going to depend on some measurements you'll need to take. I have added a link to a help article on high-low adapters which explains the measurements you'll need, as well as a link to our page with our selection of adapters. I have also added links to video reviews and installations for you to take a look at.
