Curt Cargo Carrier Weight Capacity on 2015 Mazda CX-5

Question:

Hello!! I have installed the cargo carrier and loaded it up with a load approximately 300 pounds. It seems to be dipping low in the back after it is all loaded. Is that going to be safe? I have provided a picture

Thanks for the photo. I was able to look at your order from us to see that you have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2"# C13315 and the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - Folding - 500 lbs # C18153 both of which are rated for that weight. The issue is that your 2015 Mazda CX-5 according to your owner's manual is only rated for 200 lbs tongue weight max, so that is why you are experiencing the rear sag which is an issue for your suspension and ground clearance.

Once you add the 70 lb carrier weight and 300 lbs cargo, you are 170 lbs overweight with a 300 lbs load. The hitch receiver and the cargo carrier are rated independently of the vehicle, so you have strong equipment, but your vehicle chassis can't handle even close to their capacity.
