Availability of a 4-Way Flat to 6-Way Round Trailer Connector Adapter
Question:
I use a 6 way round zinc connector system for my vehicle and trailer. I want to loan the trailer to someone who has a 4 way flat truck connector. I have a spare 6 way round zinc truck connector that I want to make an adapter with and want to know how to wire the 4 way flat plug to this 6 way connector. Thanks

We actually have a pre-made 4-Way to 6-Way round adapter that you could use if you wanted to, # A10-6034VP. For this you would plug in the 4-Way on the vehicle to the 4-Way on the adapter, ground the white wire to the frame of the vehicle, and tape up the other 2 wires on the adapter if those functions are not needed (if you just needed lighting functions).
To make your own you would need a 4-Way trailer end connector, like # HM48110, and wire the blunt cut bare wire ends to the 6-Way round you have as follows:
If looking at the back of the plug where the wires attach, the pin in the 12 oclock position is for running lights, the pin in the 4 oclock position is for right turn/brake light, the pin in the 8 oclock position is for left turn and brake lights, and the pin in the 10 oclock position is for ground. I have included a link to an FAQ article shows the functions of the various connectors.
