Recommended Hitch and Bike Rack for Forest River Micro-Lite Trailer

Question:

Can you recommended a frame mount hitch and bike rack for our Forest River Micro-Lite 21 FBRS? Im not even going to attempt attaching anything to the bumper. Im looking to attach a bike rack and 2 bikes. Maybe 250# max. Regards

Starting with the trailer hitch I recommend the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13703. This adjustable Class III hitch is designed specifically for trailers like your Forest River Micro-Lite and will install perfectly as long as the camper features a box frame, C-channel frame, or I-beam frame that measures 22 to 72 inches wide. It will provide you with a 2 inch receiver and it has a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds.

The hitch can be bolted to the Micro-Lite with the included hardware or welded on for a no-drill application. I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference. I agree that going with a frame mount hitch like this instead of a bumper mounted unit is a much better solution for your smaller trailer to handle the weight of a loaded bike rack.

With the 2-inch receiver in place its then just a matter of selecting a great bike rack that is also approved for use at the back of a trailer. The highest capacity, trailer-approved rack we have available is the Swagman E-Spec # S94FR, which can handle 2 bikes that are up to 60 pounds each. This is an excellent platform-style carrier that uses pivoting upright arms with hooks to hold the bikes by the frame. It has an integrated hitch and cable lock to secure everything in place and help deter theft.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this bike rack so you can get a closer look at all of its features.
