Does the Brake Output Wire Need to be Ran with the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller

Question:

Im glad I read you expert q/a. I will be towing a electric brake trailer from a motorhome. The brake signal control wire is connected from rear to under dash for a dash mounted controller. I understand that is not needed and all that is required is the 12V power wire connection which is there. My question is if I want to move my 850 lb. trailer empty with my car, can I not just adapt to a 4-wire and not use the brakes? This would be for short distances with empty trailer which shouldnt require the brakes. I have a 7 to 4 adaptor for my motorhome to pull small trailers. Is there an adaptor that is reverse of that so a 7 can plug into a 4?

You are correct about the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # TK94FR in that all you will need is 12 volt power on the 7-way. Unfortunately, there is not easy way to go back and forth between a 4-way and 7-way trailer connector on the trailer side at least. However, you can go back and forth between a 4-way and 7-way trailer connector on the vehicle side and for that I recommend the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185.

The only thing you will need to do to install the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole is plug the two 4-ways into each other and attach the ground. Since you said you will not need to activate the brakes, the blue brake output, black 12 volt power, and purple reverse wires can just be taped up. In order to mount the new trailer connector you will also need the No-Drill Mount Bracket part # 18136.
