Recommended Trailer Tire PSI For Best Tire Function

Question:

I understand that running max psi is what you recommend. Are you recommending max psi thats listed on the tire when cold or do you consider that a tire pressure increases when hot approx 10psi and to use the max pressure when hot?

Expert Reply:

The psi max is when the tire is inflated cold. As you drive and as ambient temps change the psi will increase, but the manufacturer accounts for that change in their psi recommendations. You want to inflate to the max psi prior to your trip to give you the rated load capacity as well as the best traction. Adjusting that can cause your tires to not function as intended and overheat which is the leading cause of failure. So the # LHAW133 you asked this from would be 80 psi inflated cold.
