Can 225/75R15 Tire Be Used As Spare For 235/80R16 Tire On Trailer?

Question:

I installed 4 new 16inch tires and wheels on my dual axle trailer, size 235/80r16 replacing my older 15inch tires and wheels that were 225/75r15. The height difference is 2.66inch Can I use the 15inch as a spare or should I also upgrade it to a 16inch with the same tire size?

You need to use the same size.

Sometimes when the sizes are really close you can get away with using a different size, but an over 2-1/2" difference is massive and you'll need to purchase something like the # LHAW133. This is a 235/80R16 load range E tire with a 16" wheel with the 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern.

If you need a spare tire carrier as well just let me know what kind of trailer you have (car trailer, enclosed trailer, camper etc) and I'd be happy to help find the best option for you.
