Recommended 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller for 2019 Honda Odyssey

Question:

Okay I have a 2019 Odyssey and I do plan towing a trailer that has electric brakes maybe a couple times a year. What do I need (other than the hitch) to make this happen. Thank you.

To set your 2019 Honda Odyssey up to pull your trailer that is equipped with electric brakes you will need to start with a 4-Way trailer harness.

For this the Tekonsha T-One # 118781 will work perfectly. This custom harness will install by plugging right into the factory port behind the interior trim panel in the rear cargo area (see attached image). This particular harness features a higher amp rating than the Curt alternative that is also available for your Odyssey and also allows for a more secure connection of the converter box.

I have attached an installation video on your 2019 Honda Odyssey that you can use for reference.

Then you will just need to convert the 4-Way to a 7-Way using the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything needed to do this along with the extra wiring and circuit breakers to run the hot lead up to the vehicle's battery in order to activate the 12V circuit pin on the new 7-Way. I have included the detailed written installation instructions that you can take a look at.

Then for a trailer brake controller I highly recommend the Curt Echo # C51180. This unique controller will simply plug into the 7-Way connector on your Odyssey and pair to your phone via Bluetooth after downloading the free app. And that is it! Your smartphone will be used to adjust brake settings or to activate the manual override so you don't have to worry about permanently mounting something else inside the van like with other controllers.

When installing the above-mentioned # ETBC7 Kit you will only need to run the 12V power wire. The brake output circuit does not need to be active on the 7-Way for this controller to work. This simply allows for a much easier installation overall.

I have attached a short video demonstration that you can also check out.
