Video Transcript for Deka Battery Box Installation - Enclosed Trailer

Hey guys, Kevin here with etrailer, and today, I'm gonna be showing you how to install the Deka Vented Battery Box here on our enclosed work trailer. The installation of this battery box is fairly simple, honestly, the hardest part really is just going to be hooking up to your battery, in this case, just because we we're rolling off of our breakaway battery, instead, just finding the wires, which even then, that only took a couple of minutes to really trace out. So all in all very simple install, you can easily do this yourself. To start off our installation, we're gonna find the right spot where we wanna place our battery box. We have our breakaway battery right here, so I wanna make sure that I'm not gonna come into contact with that, I wanna be able to easily open that lid if I need to get in there. So right here, kind of where I have it is how I'm going to place it, I'm gonna take some self-tapping screws, I'm gonna shoot two in on this side, one in on this side, and I'll see if I can really get one into this corner of the box down in there too, but with three of them, we'd be more than good.

I don't want that all the way tight yet, because I'm gonna have to maneuver a little bit, so I can make sure that my box is straight again. Go back and tighten that up. We can vacuum out our box here. Last thing to do is just throw on your top, and then we're gonna wrap our cable thing around here, and we're just going to put it up through the middle opening, and then down through our outer opening, so that it'll make a nice tight seal up on our box. Make sure that our lid doesn't come flying off while we're driving down the road.

Well, I think that does it for our today's installation of the Deka Vented Battery Box here on our enclosed work trailer. My name's Kevin, thanks for watching..

little confusing on its size, when arrived it was only big enough to hold a lawn mower battery , i still found a purpose for it but had to buy one bigger locally so i could finish my job i was doing

by:

This was probably made for a lawn tractor battery, but was perfect to house my small solar system with two 5.5 amp closed cel batteries and the charge controller that came with my solar panel. It just fits in the space between my camper on my Tacoma.

by:

It is a plastic battery box. Its purpose is to protect the battery and contain acid in the unlikely event of a leak. It is the same materials and quality as can be bought locally, but a smaller size than can be found in stores. The quality is very good. I am using it for a U1 size deep cycle battery to run a fish finder. The hold down brackets are plastic. It would be much better if they were aluminum or stainless steel. I would pay extra to have stronger hold down brackets. The plastic ones might break in the event of a quick stop with a trailered boat. It would also be better if there were slots or brackets molded on the box for the strap to pass through.

Works as advertised, no problems. Contains and restrains the battery.,

by:

Etrailer was the only place I could find a box that fit the garden tractor battery. I installed a second battery on my Kawasaki Mule. I secured the box to a flat surface with four self tapping screws and fender washers. The box is well built. I also like the cover. It keeps the battery clean and protects terminal connections.

by:

Excellent for what I needed it for. I used a pool noodle to secure a small battery inside this box so that the battery would not rattle inside. I carefully cut the noodle to sizes I needed and the battery is snug. Drilled a hole in the top for an accessory connector, so as to have less wires hanging around and easy removal from my SeaDoo. The hardest part was to find a place in the front storage compartment where I can fasten the box down. Will test this later.
I have this box to house a battery for a depth/fish finder for my 2004 SeaDoo GTX for fishing.

Yes, I fish from a PWC - it is fun. :)
Fish. Ski. Why not both?!
Yeah!

Perfect battery box for my small battery I run my outboard motor with.

Excellent

by:

I use the battery box for a permanent backup generator, mounted nicely to pad for easy cable hook up. Water tight and does a nice job.

by:

The shipping was fast and arrived as scheduled.
I
purchased the battery box to hold a battery in my cargo trailer to power led light strips.

by:

Works great. No issues with several trips to nearby lakes with our electric trolling motor. The small size is really nice as space is an issue on my 13 foot boat.

by:

just what I wanted

by:

Purchased two U1 vented Battery Boxes and they are perfect for my application. Couldn’t be more pleased. I use these to house batteries for my automatic gate opener batteries.

by:

A very good quality case for the money spent. Etrailer provided very fast shipping and communication. The item was packaged well.

by:

Nice box, but the holes in the top (vents) allow rainwater to get inside.

by:

Great way to keep your battery out of the elements, and secure to your trailer.

by:

its a plastic box to hold a battery, what is be written?

by:

Quality product at a good price. Needed a small battery case for my camper and this one was a perfect size.

by:

The battery box is exactly what I needed for a lawn vacuum, the product is well made, protects the battery from being damaged and keeps the battery clean.

by:

The box was exactly what I wanted. It arrived quickly and etrailer had the best price. Very happy!

by:

Used it for a gate opener so its outside 100% of the time. No fading or anything.

by:

Battery case exactly what I needed for my Project. It will be installed in my 1915 model T ford to hold the battery which runs the ignition system. Not used to often so can use my garden tractor battery when needed.

by:

Great shipping, great product, it is still in use today!!

by:

Fits u1 battery just like it says seems to be very solid and was fast delivery!

by:

  • Powering Horse Trailer Lights w/ and w/out a Battery
I have a solution for you but the only way to power accessory lighting in your trailer through a 12v is to use an adapter like the Pollak 7-Way to 12 Volt Power Outlet Adapter item # PK11896. It sounds like you already have one of these. This will turn your 7-way connector into a 12v power source. Once you have a 12v connector on your 7-way you will want to purchase an adapter that has two male 12v ends. There isn't a 7-way trailer connector to a 12v male connector adapter. The reason there...

  • Replacement Breakaway Battery Box for Battery Dimensions 5.94 x 3.86 x 3.86-Inches
Based on your dimensions it sounds like you need a box for a trailer breakaway battery. All of the replacement breakaway battery boxes we offer can be seen on the link provided. For example, the inside of part # TK2018 measures 5-3/8 L 3-1/16 W 4-3/4-inches H. This box also has small divider inside as shown in the linked photo. It seems your battery is a bit larger in at least one dimension than most that we offer, so if needed you can use a box for a larger battery, such as one of those...

  • What are the Options for Adding a Trailer Battery Box to a Trailer
We do have several battery boxes, but none with the exact dimensions you have listed. We have smaller break away battery boxes like the Replacement Battery Box for Breakaway Kit, # 34420215, which will accept a battery that is 3-1/2 inches x 2-3/4 inches and 4 inches tall. And the Hopkins box you have referenced is 5-5/8 inches Wide x 5-1/8 inches Tall x 4-1/8 inches Deep. But we also have larger battery boxes which I have listed below. • Can I Power Lights On My Horse Trailer With a Small Battery Installed on Trailer
Yes, you would be able to install a battery on your horse trailer, and power the lights when the trailer is not connected to the truck. What you will want to do is run the power wire, typically the Black wire, on the trailer connector and connect it to the positive battery terminal. You will want to ground the battery to the trailer frame, and then run the power wires for the lights to the positive battery terminal. Each light assembly should be grounded to a clean metal surface. You...

  • Recommended Battery Box With Inside Dimensions To House 5.9 x 2.6 x 3.7 Inch Battery
My recommendation is to use the Deka Battery Box Vented- U1, # DW03188. It has inside dimensions with lid removed: 8-1/4" L x 5-1/4" W x 6-1/8" D. All of our battery boxes are slightly smaller or way larger than your battery dimensions, so this one will allow some room, but still be functional for you.

  • Recommendations To power Lights In Trailer When Not Hooked To Towing Vehicle
You would need a power inverter to allow you to power the 12V LED lights in your trailer with a 115V power source. That could prove to be expensive. I do have another solution that will work for you. To be able to plug into AC power the trailer would need to be set up with a transfer switch and electrical panel similar to what is on a house. This is a major conversion for a trailer that is not already set up for it. I recommend you use a junction box along with the additional battery to...

  • Is it Possible to Hook Seven-Way Directly to a Battery to Power Concession Trailer Lights?
It is possible to use a 7-way vehicle end connector such as # PK12-707E to hook up to a stand-alone battery for your lights. You would need to connect by using 10 gauge wire, # 10-2-1, and if you use a deep cell battery as you suggested, a pair of ring terminals such as # DW05705-1 would secure your wiring to the battery. For a more permanent setup, you can mount a battery box such as # DW03188 (the exact size would depend on the dimension of the battery) on the trailer so you do not have...

You can then install the battery in-line into the power wire coming from the 7-way connector. This would then charge the battery on the trailer when hooked to your truck, and give you the power needed when you want to unhook your truck, and use your car hauler like a work shop. • Mounting Deka Vented Battery Box on Trailer
The Deka Battery Box # DW03188, which is for Group U1 batteries, is designed to be mounted with a surface under it, as the mounting hardware is used to put a strap through it and hold the box that way. You would need to fabricate your own surface in the space you showed in your photo and mount it to that surface with the provided hardware. I've attached a link to an installation video for you to check out that shows how this box was designed to be mounted.

  • Using a Switch and Trailer Mounted Battery to Power Interior Trailer Lights
What I recommend is to wire up the lights via a switch installed inside the trailer and connected to the battery. You can mount the battery where needed but 10-gauge wire will be too large for lights. A lot depends on the lights and how much power they draw but 16-gauge wire such as # 16-1-1, sold by the foot, would likely be all you need. For a switch you could use something like # PK34513. It is a basic on/off toggle switch rated for 10 amps. Another option is # PK33300 rated for 20...
