The Hopkins # HM48895 is intended for use with vehicles that have LED tail lights and is not the recommended harness for your 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
There are 4-way harnesses with converters that will fit your '96 Grand Cherokee that I recommend using: the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118349 if your Jeep does NOT have the factory tow package or the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM42525 if your Jeep DOES have the factory tow package.
