This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the passenger's side. You will have to remove the floor molding and some interior paneling to access this harness.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today we're going to take a look at the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Wiring Harness with the 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector for a factory tow package. Now this is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 1995, 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokees with the factory tow package. This part will provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights, and this is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters that we sell separately. As I mentioned this is designed for use on vehicles that have the factory tow package installed. It does connect very quickly and easily. There's no cutting or splicing of wires.
Basically this custom-fit T-connector right here will plug into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness and that's usually located in your rear cargo area on the passenger side. Now you might have to remove some of the floor molding and some interior paneling to access this harness, so you plug in the T-connector and then the 4-pin connector right here will plug in. Now this does include this taillight converter, and this is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. This is a power module. It connects directly to your battery so it avoids overloading your vehicle's electrical system.
Now this part comes with everything shown here. It comes with the cable ties, and those cable ties are used to attach your module down so it doesn't move around. It comes with this nice rubber dust cap, and what that's nice for is you can attach this to your 4-way just like that and you can leave it on there if you'd like. Then when you're not plugged into your trailer, you can just put it over your terminals and it protects those terminals from any damage or from the elements, and it comes with this nice little packet of terminal grease to use on all your electrical connections. Any time you make an electrical connection, you want to put a little bit of that dielectric grease on it.
