Note: Early production models built before April 1994 require wiring harness 46255, if built March 1994 or beyond, 118349 is correct.

Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Exactly what I needed for my Jeep. Easy installation. I was a little confused on what I needed but after talking to Customer Service (Teresa) it was shipped, received and installed. I can't send pictures because it is totally hidden except for the pigtail for the trailer. Very satisfied.

i looked your product over and i am convinced that it is a good one. i looked into this installation from many sources and found yours to be the most adapt one. installation of your product makes a very secure one. i will not leave the plug inside the automobile but will find a mounting place close to the hitch itself.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Just wanted everyone to know about the wiring harness that I purchased a year ago. It was exactly what I needed. I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I bought used. It had some jury-rigged wiring in it from a previous owner that didn't work correctly. The installation instructions with this were great. Just in case, I also looked at a you tube installation video to help. This wiring harness plugged right into the back light sockets and worked great from day one. It still works fine to this day. Turn signals, brake lights, and emergency blinkers are all working on the trailer. There are many choices out there. If your vehicle has trailer wiring problems, I would highly recommend this harness. Plus shipping was fast with no problems! Great company!

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Very Good design and relatively easy to install. Works as described, was very impressed that my vehicle wiring harness was spared after the rental trailer I hooked up to deteroiating wiring shorted out. Since I prefer to run wiring along established safe routes within the vehicle (instead of as suggested in the installation instructions and video) an extra 2ft of primary lead wire and and extra foot in the right side signal harness would have been beneficial andf appreciated.

by:
1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I ordered this converter for my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. After a 2-3 minute read of the instructions I proceeded to access the tailight plugs on my vehicle. You will need to remove the spare tire and open up both left and right side panels in the rear of the vehicle to gain access to the rear lights harness. After that it was simply unplug the existing connectors, plug in the adapter, route your wires under the tailgait cover panel, connect a power wire to a battery source and reassemble. Easy to do. Took me about 20 minutes and I was done. The Etrailer adapter kit was litterally plug and play. Works great. I am satisfied with my purchase and would recommend to anyone.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

When I decided to install a trailer hitch and trailer light wiring harness on my 21 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee I was dreading splicing all the wires. After watching your how to video I ordered the harness from etrailer.com. It was a very simple installation. There was no wire cutting not taping required. I did have to route one wire from the back of the jeep to the positive battery post which was quite simple. An inline fuse holder and fuse were included with the kit. I will recommend etrailer to my friends.

by:
Jeep Grand Cherokee

Works just fine. Follow the instructions, you do need to run a positive wire directly to a reliable source (battery) and use a dependable groung as well. (frame)

Rather easy to install, takes about 45 minutes to an hour to install if you do it right.

I've been pulling my 16' tracker with my Jeep Grand Cherokee without any issues, incliding the rapid fire blinker you get on occasion when the blinker circuit relay isn't strong enough to absorb the extra draw a trailer creates.

I am very happy with the product. It saved me lots of time and money. Was very easy to put in with the Youtube video. Would buy product again if needed without any question.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Installation of this product was very easy, probably took me about 30 minutes. I would recommend watching the instructional YouTube video prior to beginning the installation as the instructions included with the product are a little vague if you're not a mechanic. The video provided by etrailer provides excellent visual instructions of how to locate the wiring connectors and how to run all wires and connectors.
Overall, excellent product.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Great overall experience. My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee's taillight wiring was a hot mess. Splice city! I was able to install this unit in under an hour and it works like a charm. The installation pictures on etrailers website were extremely helpful. I got more than I paid for...peace of mind. Giddy up!

Installed this on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Install
was straight forward with easy plug in style connectors.
Only a few panels to remove and reinstall.
Easy connection to battery.
I have used this many times successfully.
Would recommend to any one with a similarly equipped Jeep.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this harness for my 95 jeep. Very easy to install, just plug and play. The hardest part was running the wire along the undercarriage, and attaching it. The kit was all heavy duty, and well made, the one thing I would change is the tiny zip ties to use in attaching the wire to the undercarriage. I used some foot long ties that I had on hand which worked fine.

by:

I am installing this harness this weekend so I cannot give a product review yet, but would like to praise Etrailer's service. Email confirmations were immediate and shipping was prompt! I recieved the harness within 3 days after placing my order! The price (with shipping) was much better than my local RV or auto parts store. This is my second purchase from Etrailer and I'm a satified customer!

by:

Unbelievable how easy this harness installed. My son and I had it done in less than 2 hours including running the hot wire from the battery. Everything came with this kit that you will need for the installation. AAAA++++++ etrailer you built a great kit. I highly recommend. Oh and it worked perfectly when we hooked up the trailer, no glitches, no fiddling. perfect!!

by:

Review would have been excellent except the primary wire from the battery in the right front to the trailer connection area in the left rear was barely long enough. I had to try 3 different routings to get one that would make it.

Instructions were clear and the videos were a real help. Service also outstanding.

by:

The trailer wiring harness arrived within a few days of ordering and installed in minutes and is working fine.. Everything I needed to make the harness connection was included and I am very happy with the whole ordering process.. thank you

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Installed wiring harness on 1996 Grand Cherokee, it was very easy to do. I tucked the 4 flat back inside the little compartment behind the spare tire and will run it under the lift gate when I need it. Also have not run wire to the battery yet I use a second battery that sets in the back to power the unit. Works great.

The Curt trailer wiring harness # C55260 is designed for models of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee that came with the factory tow package. It is possible that yours does not have the factory tow package so not all of the wiring is present. If you have searched and cannot find that connector anywhere then that is likely what is going on. So instead of harness # C55260 you would need a different harness, # 118349. I have included a link to a video review of this harness for you.

You did everything correctly. Brake controllers are designed to put a very small amount of voltage on the output current at all times as a way to "look" for a trailer connection. When they sense a load on the circuit (the brake magnets in the assemblies) the controller determines that there is a trailer connected. So what is happening in your situation is that the circuit tester of your 7-way is providing that small amperage load with the circuit tester light on it. That's why the light...
