Trailer Still Sways when Using Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2014 Ram 1500

Question:

2014 Ram 1500 5.7L crewcab, 3.21 axle, tow package with heavy duty shocks Towing 29foot 6400/7700 lb Springdale, measured 720 dry tongue weight without dual 60 lb propane tanks or battery Im using Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Im towing the trailer dry but for the tanks and battery added and maybe an additional 100 Lbs of food and clothes. 2 adults in cab and maybe 50 lbs extra in the bed of truck. WDH set up by the book with trailer towing level. The issue is a noticeable wiggle with the slightest wind. Im new to this and wonder if its normal or if there might be other enhancements to help smooth things out. Thanks

It is possible that your total tongue weight is exceeding the capacity of your Fastway weight distribution system. For weight distribution tongue weight consists of the tongue weight of the trailer when ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. So if your propane tanks, food, clothes, and 50 additional pounds can all be counted towards the tongue weight that 720 pounds turns into 930 pounds.

That 930 pounds is within the capacity of the system but it is the upper end and could easily be exceeded with a miscalculation. So that is just one really easy thing to look at. It is also fairly easy to resolve. You could move some weight in the truck bed so that it is in front of the rear axle. Or, if feasible, move some weight further back on the trailer.

With a system like the Fastway # FA94-00-1000 placement of the trailer frame brackets is also very important. The brackets for this system can be placed 24 to 27 inches back from the center of the ball. The closer they are to that 24 inches the more tension there will be on the spring bars and that can increase the effectiveness of the sway control.

Another option is to add additional sway control that won't interfere with the mechanical sway control of the Fastway system. If your trailer has electric brakes you could add the Tuson Electronic Sway Control system # 335TSC-1000. I have linked a video review with more information.
