Can Lippert Self-Adjusting Brakes be Manually Adjusted

Question:

I just bought a new RV trailer and I went from a setting on my truck brakes at 6 from the old trailer to 10 on this new trailer and it doesnt want to stop I think they are way out of adjustment. Can the self adjusting brakes adjust themselves up if you manually trip the manual Electric trailer brakes numerous times

Helpful Expert Reply:

Yes, you can manually adjust self-adjusting brakes with a spoon like the drum brake spoon # W80630.

If you let me know what is going on with your brakes I can try to help you troubleshoot why your brakes need to be adjusted.

If your trailer is brand new or is new to you and has brand new self-adjusting brakes on it then there is some adjustment that needs to be done. You can either use the spoon that I referenced above or you can go to an empty parking lot, get going up to 25 mph, and then hit your brakes and use your manual override on your brake controller. This will be a hard stop (like an emergency) but it should properly adjust your brakes after a few times.
