Troubleshooting Trailer Hitch Install Where Rear Hatch Doesnt Close Properly When Hardware Torqued

Question:

When I tighten the hitch to 76lbs like the instructions say my hatch wont shut correctly. The piece in the door is rubbing on the hatch loop on the floor. As soon as I loosen it up a bit it closes correctly

Here's what I would try first. Try torquing the install bolts when the vehicle is sitting on the ground with the full weight of the vehicle on the suspension. If you are torquing the hardware with the vehicle jacked up in the air the hitch will hold the frame in a position where it can be partially flexed and cause the issue you are having. Or it's possible the hitch was bent and when you tighten the hardware it then causes the frame to flex.

Does the hitch seem like it was bend possibly? When you hold the hitch up to the frame of your vehicle does it sit flush to the mounting surfaces and do all of the hole line up?
