Why Won't 4-Way and 7-Way Connectors Work with Trailer on a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

Hi, Installed the factory hitch and trailer connector at the dealership. they were unable to wire it stating there was not any factory connector. Ok. So i brought it to a local electrical shop for wiring. No problem. Both the flat 4 pin and the 7 pin round have necessary power for stop, tail, turn and ground. I have checked all pins several times with a test light. When i attach my boat trailer nothing works. I have tried two other tow vehicle and there is no problem. What can be the problem?? Thank you

Sometimes after installing some aftermarket wiring the Jeep "tow package" wiring circuit will need to be activated. This can only be done at a Jeep dealer and it sounds like this is what is going on.

You can verify this by checking to see how your current wiring is connected. If everything is splice in then it would bypass all of the factory wiring and I am not sure why you would be testing and getting a signal but your Jeep isn't communicating with your trailer. If the 4-Way and 7-Way connector is installed to the factory jeep wiring (see linked video for the Curt # C55774) then your Grand Cherokee most likely needs to be "flashed" at your local Jeep dealer.

Let me know if your wiring was spliced in and I can help you look into this further.
