Can the Pin Box Height be Adjusted Before Adjusting the Height of 5th Wheel Hitch Head

Question:

I have the B and W companion 20k that I bought from etrailer. Thanks for all the help with picking it out. Now, my question is I have the head of the 5th wheel hitch where I want it. I am able to see it out the back glass. It is on the middle setting. When hauling my trailer, there is more room than necessary between the bed of the truck and the trailer. The trailer is riding a little high. Is ok to adjust the pin box vs. Lowering the hitch in the bed? I have adjustment on both parts. I do not know if there is a preference or rule to follow. Thanks

Glad to hear that you are enjoying the B&W Companion # BWRVK3300!

Typically people will adjust the 5th wheel hitch height first because it is easier to do so. Since the pin box is pretty heavy this normally has to be done by a trailer shop.

If you have the means to safely adjust the height of your pin box and you would rather do that then there is no problem with adjusting the pin box first.
