Best Base Rail Kit for a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 6-1/2 Foot Bed

I upgraded from 02 chevy 1500HD to a 2018 2500HD crew cab short bed and I was planning to use my existing 16K Drawtite hitch, which rail system should I purchase? Pros and cons for each, is universal with narrow brackets as strong as the custom brackets that bolt on the outside. Thanks

The best base rail kit we have for you to install the Draw-Tite 16K 5th Wheel Hitch on your 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit part # RP50066-58. This kit is a custom fit that does not require any drilling into the frame rails. It comes with everything you need and I have attached an install video for you.
This option will only work for you if the truck did not come with the factory puck system. If it did come with the factory puck system you will want to use the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Chevy/GMC OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package part # DM6194 instead.
The Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit part # RP30035 is just as strong as the custom kit but there would be absolutely no reason to use this kit since there is a custom one available. This would require you to drill several holes into the frame of a brand new truck which would certainly void the warranty.
