Question:

we installed new lights on our boat trailer and the running lights and turn signals work perfect but when we press on the break of the truck the lights on the trailer go out. What could cause this?

It sounds like you have a ground issue on your trailer with new lights. It sounds like when the lights are drawing their maximum amperage (when the brake lights are on) the draw is too much and it is shorting out the lights. I would check the wiring for the lights, especially the ground wires, for loose wiring or not being grounded to a clean surface and fix as necessary.

If the grounds are good, the other potential problem is that you might be using too many lights on your boat trailer, and the draw is just too much for the circuit. The solution for this problem would be for you to use LED tail lights on your trailer as they draw considerably less than incandescent bulbs. I attached a page that shows all of the LED tail lights we currently offer.

I attached an FAQ article on trailer wiring for you to check out also.
