Aluminum 12 Wheel and Tire Recommendation for Highway Speeds of 75 mph

Greetings, I would like a pair of aluminum wheels with a taskmaster tire, or other tires that will be able to sustain long trips at highway speeds. My current set has a bulge that is causing a vibration. Its a single axle trailer only carrying 800 lbs maximum. Im not sure if I care to have radial or bias ply. Currently the size is 5.30 - 12, and the hub is 5 x 4.5. I was looking at this set but I am worried about cruising at 75 mph for extended periods: AM31202, but since I can't find that combo, I have settled on the similar Aluminum Lynx Trailer Wheel - 12" x 4" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Silver Item # LH45FR Is it possible to get those wheels with taskmaster speed rated tires, or do you have a different recommendation? If you really like the Aluminum Lynx Trailer Wheel - 12" x 4" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Silver # LH45FR then all you would need is the Taskmaster 5.30R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT53012C and the valve stem # AM20907. The tire has a load range of C (1,050 lbs at 80 psi) and is rated for 81 mph so it would be perfect for cruising at 75 mph. Unfortunately, we do not have any tires pre mounted on a 12" wheel that have a speed rating over 65 mph.

After getting these parts you would just need to have them mounted at a local shop.

I recommend going with a radial tire for highway travel as they have cords that are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. Radial tires are better for highway because they have less rolling resistance and heat build up. Bias have stronger sidewalls and are the better choice for off-road purposes like agriculture.

The 12 inch tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour. Any faster than that for extended periods and the excessive heat build up will cause tire failure. To get a tire with a higher speed rating you would have to go up in size. That also…

It doesn't look like you have a whole lot of extra fender clearance on your motorcycle trailer so I'd recommend sticking with the tire size you have now and going with a higher speed rating like the part #TT53012C which is rated for up to 81…
