Recommended Roof Vent for Cargo Trailer Toy Hauler

Question:

Hello, I’m looking to purchase a crank up roof vent for my custom trailer project8x14’ cargo trailer conversion to toyhauler I would like a plastic top that lets light in, not metal. Most likely without a fan but I am considering both options. The roof on my trailer is metal with no insulation or ceiling installed inside. What I would like to do is install a vent that will install without an interior trim pieceattach only from topside If I decide to install insulation and ceiling panels the thickness will be 2” approximately. If the vent kit comes with an interior trim piece that will fit this thickness that would be preferred. Can you suggest a kit with and without fan that would accommodate this roof design? I’ve been looking at ventline’s basic vent with smoke colored lid or fan-tastic vent with reversible fan, unsure if these will install without the interior trim piece or will fit a 2” thickness roof . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For your roof vent, I recommend the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2092SP-29 which will let the light through and will mount to the roof only. The garnish/trim on the inside is designed for roofs between 1-7/8 and 3 inches thick. I recommend installation kit # 344270KITW for best fit and seal.

If you determine you would like to add a fan, then I recommend the Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan - # FV802250 which will fit ceilings up to 4 inches thick. The garnish/trim is able to be cut to your desired ceiling thickness. I recommend the same installation kit # RVIKIT100 for this installation as well.

If you want the vent open even in rain, you may want to consider the Fan-Tastic Vent Ultra Breeze Trailer Roof Vent Cover # DMC38FR
