Recommended Base Rail Kit For 5th Wheel Hitch Position in 2018 Ram 1500 with 5 Foot 5 Inch Bed
Question:
I have a Husky 16kw hitch that was originally installed in the truck we traded in 2015 Ram 1500, 4x4, crew cab, 5’ 5” box,non-air suspension The new truck is a 2018 Ram 1500, 4x4, crew cab, 5’ 5”, box, with the air suspension. The camper has a sidewinder. Where should I position the hitch in the bed? Thanks

For your Husky 5th wheel hitch and 2018 Ram 1500 with 5ft 5 inch bed, I recommend you use the Curt Custom fit 5th wheel rail kit # C16444-204 which will help you to install the rails in the correct location. The rear rail's back edge will be 29 inches from the rear edge of the truck bed (not tailgate edge). I've attached a photo from the attached installation details to assist.
The combination of the rails, your hitch and the Sidewinder will work well together for your application. I do recommend the custom wedge # SWW-04 for your Sidewinder and Husky hitch combination for best function.
You may also want to consider a wiring harness like # C56000 to put a second 7-way trailer connector in the bed of your truck for a clean look and easy connection access.
