I'm not sure why but I can tell you that the part you're looking at, Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11143910, is a fit for the Lexus 570 but not your 2005 Toyota Tacoma.
To install a 7-way trailer connector on your truck you need to first start by adding a 4-way if you don't already have one. I recommend using the Tekonsha part # 118496. It plugs in either behind the tail lights or along the truck's frame rail on both sides.
Once the 4-way is installed, or if you already have one, use our # ETBC7 kit to convert it to a 7-way. The kit includes everything you need to have a fully functioning 7- and 4-way other than an electric brake controller.
If you also need a brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P3, part # 90195, because of how reliable and easy to use it is. It has an LCD that actually tells you what's going on instead of just reading codes like most controllers.
