Installing a 7-Way Trailer Connector on a 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

I already have a 7 way on my 2005 Tacoma. I want to replace it because the factory one is faulty. What is the part number for plug n play for a 2005 Tacoma?

I'm not sure why but I can tell you that the part you're looking at, Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11143910, is a fit for the Lexus 570 but not your 2005 Toyota Tacoma.

To install a 7-way trailer connector on your truck you need to first start by adding a 4-way if you don't already have one. I recommend using the Tekonsha part # 118496. It plugs in either behind the tail lights or along the truck's frame rail on both sides.

Once the 4-way is installed, or if you already have one, use our # ETBC7 kit to convert it to a 7-way. The kit includes everything you need to have a fully functioning 7- and 4-way other than an electric brake controller.

If you also need a brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P3, part # 90195, because of how reliable and easy to use it is. It has an LCD that actually tells you what's going on instead of just reading codes like most controllers.

Since you already have a 7-way on your truck it should use the standard round car connetor like shown in the picture I attached. Which means something like part # HM40920 will work. This one provides a 4-way connector as well.
