Replacement Wheel and Tire Recommendation for Size F78-14 with Galvanized Wheel

Question:

My old rims and tires are f78-14 on a 2000 lb. Boat trailer. Can you help me find the correct new rim and tire size? Prefer the galvanized rims.

The modern size equivalent for the tire size F78-14 is the size 205/75-14. So for this size on a galvanized wheel Taskmaster Mod Wheel and Tire part # AM3S450. What's great about the Taskmaster tires is that they are rated for higher speeds at 81 mph whereas most are only rated for 65.

The tire has a ply rating of 6 and a 1,760-lb max load at 50 psi as well.

My 3000lb boat has 30 year old F78-14 tires. Can I replace them with 12 or 13 tires and wheels to make the boat lower to the water?

As long as you're still able to maintain sufficient weight capacity, there's no particular reason you couldn't move to a smaller tire/wheel to lower your ground clearance. I'm not sure how much you're looking to drop the trailer, but going to an ST175/80R13 tire/wheel like the Kenda # AM31994 will lower it by a little over an inch. It features a load capacity of 1,610 pounds at 65 psi.
