Does Black Wire of Brake Controller Install Kit # ETBC7 Have to Run to Vehicle Battery

Why does this kit need a hot wire to the battery. Isnt the controller connected to the battery and the hot wire to the 7 way plug comes from the controller only.

If all you need is trailer lighting circuits and a brake controller to function you do not have to connect the power (black) wire of the Brake Controller install kit part # ETBC7.

It comes with the kit but is not needed for the operation of a brake controller.
