What is the Correctly Rated Winch for 5,000 lb Boat With 25 Degree Angle?

Question:

We have a boat house at the water with a 25.6 degree ramp down to the water. We want to be able to winch our Wakeboard boat on the trailer that weighs 5000 lbs in and out of the water. What capacity would you recommend of the winch? I attached a picture to show where we would like to put the winch in the boathouse. Thanks!

Thank you for the detailed diagram. There is a way to determine the correctly rated winch, and that is to multiply the winch capacity by a factor determined by the degree of the incline. So in your case, 26 degrees, which would make the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch - Marine # DL25215 the option I recommend.

It has a 3,000 lb capacity so you need to multiply 3,000 by 1.86 (the correct number for a 26 degree incline) and that will tell you the capacity of this winch for your incline, which is going to be 5,580 lbs.

This is an electric winch that is 12V DC powered and comes with a 25' positive battery wire and 8' ground wire. I do recommend using the Dutton-Lainson Winch Cover # DL24051 with it and in order to mount it you can use the Dutton-Lainson Angle Mounting Plate # DL24059.

I've added links to video reviews for you to take a look at as well.
