Recommendation For Pulling 2018 R-Pod 179 With 2018 Toyota Tundra

Question:

Hi I have a 2018 Tundra and I'm pulling a 2018 R-Pod 179. I would like recommendations for pulling it. I would like sway control but not sure I really need weight distribution.

Based on my research, you probably will not need a weight distribution system and sway control may not be necessary. Sway can be reduced and even controlled with a more even packing of your trailer. If this does not give you the control you need then I would add a Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, Item # 83660. It is compatible with electric brakes, does not allow for backing up, and installs and removes easily.

If you do not already have a towing setup for pulling your 2018 R-Pod with your 2018 Toyota Tundra then you will need: hitch, ball mount, hitch ball, pin and clip, 7-way connector, wiring, and a brake controller.

For a hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch, Item # 41935. This hitch is a 2-inch, Class IV trailer hitch receiver confirmed to fit your Tundra. It is a heavy duty hitch with a 1,200-lb maximum tongue weight and a 12,000-lb maximum gross trailer weight. All of the hardware is included and no drilling is required for installation.

For a ball mount and hitch ball, I recommend going with something like the Etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2-inch Hitches, Item # 989891. This kit includes a ball mount, 2 trailer hitch balls, ball mount with 3/4-inch rise or 2-inch drop, pin and clip, and a storage bag. I have attached a link to our selection of ball mounts and hitch balls for a 2-inch hitch receiver as well as an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop you may need.

If you do not choose a kit option, a general purpose pin and clip is Item # PC3 and a locking pin is Item # e98882.

To pull your 2018 R-Pod that comes with electric brakes, you will need a 7-way connector and wiring which you may have. If you have a factory 4-way connector, I recommend the Universal 7-Way and 4-Way Installation Kit, Item # ETBC7, that includes everything you need to install a 7-way connector and an electric trailer brake controller. Item # ETBC7 will plug into the 4-way on your vehicle and you will connect all of the wires.

Because your R-Pod has electric brakes, you will need a brake controller. I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller, Item # 331-EBRH-ACCV2. The Redarc is a controller that brakes in proportion to your Tundra's braking action. It automatically adjusts your trailer's brakes, has multiple settings, and is easy to use. It has an automatic leveling feature and you can switch to a preset braking mode for off-road use.

If you send me more details about your vehicle and what your current setup is, I can make more specific recommendations. I have also included links to some articles and videos you might find helpful.
