Where to Connect Brake Controller Adapter in on a 2014 Toyota Tacoma with Factory 7-Way

Question:

Jon, I viewed the video and the connection is not there. Even though my truck came with the towing package and 7-way, there is no underdash connection to be found.

If your 2014 Toyota Tacoma came with the Factory 7-Way then you will want to look next to the driver side kick panel for the wiring harness.

I have attached a video of the Tekonsha P2 # 90885 being installed on a 2012 Tacoma that you can reference. This installation video shows the Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3040-P being installed for the P2 which will be the same as Curt Adapter # C51362 for your Curt brake controller.

If your connector is not located there then let me know and I can help you troubleshoot further.

If you cannot find it by reaching your hand behind that kick panel then I would say your next best thing would be to remove the kick panel altogether if you have not already tried that. Since it just kind of sits behind the panel it is possible that it came loose and fell further down. After checking that, if you still cannot find the connector then I would say you can try testing your 7-Way to make sure that everything was properly installed. If you start your Tacoma you should be able to use a tester, like part # PTW2992, to check the pin in the 2 o'clock position on your 7-Way. This should be your 12V Pin and you should be getting power to it if your Tacoma has the factory 7-Way. If you don't have power to that pin then that leads me to believe that they did not run all of the wiring. I have attached a picture that shows what signals the different pins on your 7-Way should be receiving. Test each pin to make sure everything is working. If everything works but the 12V Power pin and your Brake Controller pin then you will need to install the Wiring Kit # 5506 to finish up the wiring for your 7-Way. I have attached an installation video of part # 5506 as well as some helpful articles that you can reference for the installation.
