Recommended Tire Pressure Load Range G Tires and Cushioned Equalizers for 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have a very over-rated tire on a trailer. ST235/85R16 14Ply LRG with a load cap of 4,400 LBS/tire - what would your recommendation be for PSI adjustment if the 5th wheel RV is only 5,000LBS GVW and has 4 single tires? Will running them at the full 110 PSI create accelerated wear since they are designed to carry so much more weight?

Expert Reply:

For your load rating G tires on your 5th wheel trailer, you will still want to run your tires at their max psi. This will keep them from overheating and possibly failing. Your suspension should keep your trailer from too rough a ride, but you can decrease your load rating or get cushioned equalizers like the Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers - Double Eye Springs - Tandem Axle - 3K to 6K # LC279687 to smooth the travel.
