Recommended E-Track Mounting on Aluminum Frame Trailer

Question:

RECENTLY PURCHASED E TRACK SYSTEM TO INSTALL IN MY ALL ALUMINUM TRAILER WITH WOOD FLOOR. GOING TO USE IT TO TIE DOWN MY TWO LARGE HARLEYS. ARE THESE THE SCREWS I WOULD USE TO SCREW THE ETRACK TO THE FLOOR AND THE BACK PLATE I ALSO PURCHASED? IF SO WHAT DO I USE FOR THE NUT AND LOCK WASHER? MY FLOORING IS 3/4 INCH PLYWOOD. ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO INSTALL HORIZONTAL E TRACK ON THE WALLS, BUT AM CONFUSED AS TO HOW I WOULD DO THIS AS I CANT USE BACKING PLATES AND I WAS TOLD THAT DIFFERENT METAL SCREWS BEING SCREWED INTO ALUMINUM COULD HAVE A CORROSIVE EFFECT ON ALUMINUM STUDS. ANY THOUGHTS ON THESE TWO ISSUES? THANK YOU

Expert Reply:

The Zinc Sheet Metal Screw - 8 x 3/4" Indented Hex Washer Head - Hex Slotted Drive # 31071 are a good choice for your wall studs, but not for your 3/4 inch wood floors. The zinc coating on both the E-track # E19148 and the screws will prevent galvanic corrosion from the dissimilar metals of steel and aluminum. For your floors, I recommend using zinc plated screws along with locknuts to secure your bikes using backing plate # e96RR. You can obtain that hardware from your local hardware shop.

If it were my Harley being transported, I'd use the Erickson E-Track Tie Down Ring - 2,000 lbs # 59147 along with the Erickson Ratcheting Motorcycle Tie-Down Straps w Long Safety Hooks - 1"x6' - 400 lb - Qty 2 # EM05710 and Motorcycle and Mobility Soft Loops # 06303. I also recommend the Tow-Rax Removable Wheel Chock # TWSPWM for better security.
