Are Bias Ply and Radial Ply Tires Compatible with Each Other on Trailer

Question:

I have a 32foot toy hauler inch with mixed matched tires, I have a ST225 175D-15 tire along with a ST 225 175 R-15 tire .... are these compatible? Also what is the tire pressure required?

The ST225/75D15 tires on your trailer indicate that they are bias ply tires, different than the ST225/75R15 units also on your trailer, which are radial ply tires. I do not recommend maintaining this existing mix between the two tire types, as they will not track the same which can result in uneven tire wear down the line.

I recommend replacing the two bias ply tires on your trailer with radials so that all of them match. When choosing replacement tires, you will also want to make sure the new sets match the load range on your current tires. This should be represented by a letter within the tire size on its sidewall. For example, on a metric size tire, "ST175/80R13 LRD" indicates a Load Range D.

Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi as listed on the tire's sidewall. The maximum psi for your existing tires will depend on its load range/capacity. The load pressure for each load range is as follows:

Load Range B: 4 Ply Rating, 35 psi
Load Range C: 6 Ply Rating, 50 psi
Load Range D: 8 Ply Rating, 65 psi
Load Range E: 10 Ply Rating, 80 psi

I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection of ST225/75R15 tires that you can look through. You can filter through the different load range ratings by using the facets on the left side of the page. I have attached a couple additional articles on trailer tires and wheels that you might also find helpful.
