Obtaining Brake Stop Light Signal to Install Brake Controller in 2003 Subaru Forester

Question:

Im wiring one of your flat 4 pin to 7 pin round connector kits, and using a Tekonsha Primus, and installing on a Subaru Forester. Id rather not splice into the brake switch wiring. Can I splice into the brake light wire on the 4-pin connector and run a wire alongside the grey wire thats coming up from the rear and connecting to the battery, and use that as the source of brake signal for the controller? thanks

The circuits for the brake light signal on the 4-pole connector is also combined with the turn signals. If attached in this manner, the brake controller could apply the trailer brakes when the turn signals are activated.

As an alternate, the brake controller can obtain its brake light signal from one of the brake lamps, but I would strongly suggest installing the controller as the manufacturer recommends, by using the wire at the brake stoplight switch. Thousands of brake controllers have been installed in this manner over the years, and this method of obtaining the brake signal has proven to be very reliable.
