Does a Brake Controller Red Wire Have to Attach to the Brake Switch on a Vehicle

Question:

I cant connect the stop light wire to a wire going to my brake pedal. Can i connect the stop light wire to a wire going to a brake light instead? Will that work?

The brake controller red wire requires a connection to a dedicated brake light only circuit. If anything else is on that circuit, such as a turn signal on vehicles that have combined brake and turn signals, then that circuit cannot be used.

You didn't mention the vehicle that you have but unless the brake lights are the only thing on the brake light wire you will need to obtain the signal elsewhere.

Sometimes on a vehicle the CHMSL (center high mount stop lamp) fuse is a good option. But again it would have to be the only thing on that fuse.
