Troubleshooting Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes Not Working with Prodigy P2 Controller
Question:
Hello I have a 2002 f250 7.3 diesel with a 30foot 2010 century cargo gooseneck trailer. The trailer has three axles and the brakes are drum breaks. My trailer breaks are not working it is a electric over hydraulic system. I have the prodigy2 brake controller in my truck. I have a 12 volt battery connected to solar panel to supply power to the actuator which is fully charged. Is my actuator defective or would it be another issue within the truck? I can slightly hear the motor or pump humming when the brakes are being pressed in the truck but I have to be very close to it to hear it

The first thing I recommend checking is that your Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 is set to electric over hydraulic brake mode. This controller is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes, but it does need to be switched to this mode for it to work properly. I have attached the P2 installation instructions that include the steps for switching to electric over hydraulic mode.
If the controller is properly set, then I recommend testing your existing actuator for proper function. Simply see if the unit functions correctly with 12V power. If it works as it should, then there should be no issue when it is wired to the Prodigy P2 controller.
If the unit does not work correctly when connected to 12V power, then this indicates an issue with the actuator and it will likely need to be replaced. I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection of electric-hydraulic brake actuators that you can look through if needed.
