Troubleshooting 2018 Ford F-250 Electric Over Hydraulic Trailer Brake Issues

Question:

Howdy, I recently just started having problems with my ford and it is driving me crazy. My 2018 Ford F-250 works with electric brakes but does not work with electric over hydraulic brakes even though I change the setting inside the truck. If I connect the trailer to my brothers f150 the pump roars and it works perfect. I go and connect my truck to another trailer that has electric brakes and the brakes work perfect. I don’t know why it just started doing this with electric over hydraulic brakes. My truck has hauled electric over hydraulic brake trailers and it worked before. The trailer is a 2020 gooseneck and it has less then 200 miles, I tried my friends trailer that has hydraulic brakes and I does the same thing, failure to work with he controller and the pedal. However when my friend connects his truck it works perfect. Please help!

The electric over hydraulic actuators can be touchy. The factory integrated brake controllers often have issues with consistency with EOH systems. My recommendation is to replace the factory brake controller with the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # RED44FR and the Redarc Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness for Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # 331-TPH-007 to plug into the wiring already present in your truck where you disconnect the factory brake controller. This will give you a superior brake controller compatible with all EOH models I'm aware of.

The HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Adapter Module for Ford and Chevy Brake Controllers # HBA-CAM which is designed for 2017 models and older but it is possible your controller is a model carried over from 2017.
