Weight Distribution System for Trailer Max Tongue Weight of 650 lbs

Question:

Good afternoon, I am looking to get a 4point weight distribution + sway control system. I am interested in the Equalizer and Reese systems but don't want to buy something too big for my needs. I am towing with a 4.7L v8 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is rated for 11,000lbs GCWR but the owners manual says tongue weight should not exceed 650 lbs. I will be towing a Jayco Jayflight 21qb that has a max GVWR of 6500. Thank you for the help and pointing me in the right direction

In order to choose the best weight distribution hitch, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

To determine TW you can use a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining TW I've linked for you. The ideal system would be one in which your TW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.

Without knowing your TW I would not be able to make a specific recommendation for you, but with the numbers you gave, your tongue weight should fall in the range of the Equal-i-zer # EQ37060ET, which is for total tongue weights that are between 300 lbs and 600 lbs. If you fall in that range it's an excellent system. The Equal-i-zer uses prevents sway with brackets that keep your spring bars in place with rigid friction control.
