Is the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller Compatible with the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator

Question:

Is there any compatibility problem with a Hydrastar HBA’s and a Tekonsha P3? I am trying to tow a 5500# boat trailer that has been converted to EOH using a Hydrastar HBA-10. I installed a P3 controller in my 2012 Silverado and I am getting nothing out of the trailer brakes. I friend hooked up to the trailer with a brand new Chevy 1 ton van and the brakes on the trailer worked great. The van had an aftermarket controller but I dont know what brand. I have set the P3 for hydraulic mode and it seems to pass all of the diagnostics. Thanks

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is actually one of the best options to use with an EOH setup. You should not have any problems using it with the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator # HBA-10 when it is set to EOH mode.

Since you tested it with another vehicle and your trailer brakes worked just fine it leads me to believe that the wiring on your 2012 Silverado is messed up somewhere. What you will want to do is use a Circuit Tester # PTW2992 and test the pin in the 5 O'clock position on your Silverado's 7-Way. Set the P3 to the max power setting and use the manual override slide. You should be getting full power to that pin.

If you do not get power, then you will want to sever the brake controller wire (typically Blue in color) 6 inches back from the P3 and perform the same test. If you are still not getting power, then there is a malfunction with the P3 and it will need to be replaced. If you are getting a signal, then the brake controller wire has a short somewhere. You can follow the wire and replace any sections that are damaged, corroded, exposed, or bent with 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and Butt Connectors # DW05745-5, or you can just replace the entire length of wiring itself.

Let me know if this doesn't fix your problem and I can help you troubleshoot further.
