Tire ply ratings these days do not necessarily refer to the actual number of plies as they once did. Nowadays the ply rating will provide a capacity rating equivalent to a certain number of plies. Tire technology has advanced to the point that the performance of an "8-ply" tire can be obtained with one that actually has fewer plies.

Apart from matching the tire size, of course, your selection of new tires can use the Load Range rating as your guide. In your special trailer tire size 225/75-15 we offer tires alone and also pre-mounted wheel/tire combination items. All can be seen on the linked page.

You can choose from Load Ranges C, D and E in your size. These have weight capacities (per tire) as follows: Load Range C = 2,150 lbs at 50 psi; Load Range D = 2,540 lbs at 65 psi; Load Range E = 2,961 lbs at 90 psi.

To choose your tires divide the trailer's gross weight rating (GVWR) by the number of tires on the trailer; this will tell you the minimum appropriate Load Range rating each tire needs to have in order to handle the trailer's weight. For the highest-rated E tire you can use the Westlake # LHWL304 or the Taskmaster # TR225LRE, both of which have a 10-ply rating of 2,830-lbs.

The Westlake tire # LHWL304 is rated for up to 75-mph; the Taskmaster # TR225LRE is rated to 81-mph.

Trailer tires should always be fully-inflated to the maximum psi pressure noted on the tire sidewall.
