What Circuit Functions Are Carried on Jayco 6-Square Trailer Wiring

Question:

If purchasing the 6 square to 4 prong adapter, will this power the running lights on my trailer as well. What is the extra wiring on the 6 prong for, Im guessing one to charge the battery, can I run a separate wire just for that? Thanks.

Jayco trailer wiring in the 6-pole square format as found on part # C58034 includes the basic stop, turn and tail lighting functions carried on a 4-pole connector and adds two more circuits, typically one for trailer brakes and one for 12V auxiliary trailer power.

The 4 Way Flat to 6 Way Square adapter # 30104 connects to a vehicle's 4-pole and carries those lighting signals to the Jayco-style output-end connector. The additional circuits for trailer brakes and 12V power are not included.

If you want to run a separate 12V power wire from the vehicle to the trailer you could do so. Use 10-gauge wire # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) along with an auto-resetting 40-amp circuit breaker # PK54540. Ring terminals # 44-5310A and butt connectors # 05732-2 will make this easier.
