Troubleshooting Intermittent Running Lights Functioning on Trailer Wiring

I have a 2015 Volkswagen Touareg and pull a 2015 Ranger boat. Just recently started having problems with the running lights which are flickering. I unplugged the wire harness from inside the trailer arm swing and its a 5 way. Plug. Suggestions

Intermittent trailer wiring function is almost always caused by either corrosion or in your case an adapter that is not seating properly. What you'll need to do is inspect the trailer wiring connections and clean off all corrosion you find and make sure everything is seating like it should.

In order to determine the torque rating for the lug nuts on your trailer you will need to know check out the chart I attached that shows all of the torque specs for all the trailer lugs available based on stud size, wheel material and wheel size.

Typically 4-way wiring consists of 18 and 16 gauge wires. For a 4-way that has all 16 gauge wire you would want the Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector #W787264. The part #HM38138 uses 18 gauge for all wires but the white that uses 16 gauge.
