Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for 2017 Santa Fe Towing Lance 1575 Camper Trailer
Question:
My wife and I are first-time trailerers. We are buying a Lance 1575 and trading into a 2017 Santa Fe to pull it. Santa Fe: 5,000 lbs max tow weight, 500 lbs max tongue weight Lance 1575: 2650 lbs total dry weight, 225 lbs dry tongue weight My question is whether there is enough of a margin even with some cargo in trailer we wont be close to Santa Fes max where we can use a non weight distribution hitch, or whether we should/need a weight distribution hitch. And whichever is the answer, is there one in particular you recommend? Thank you!

A trailer weight distribution/sway prevention (WD/SC) system is definitely called for in several circumstances. These include cases when the loaded trailer weighs more than half of your vehicle's weight; other instances that point to the need for WD/SC are noted in the linked article.
The Lance 1575 has a GVWR of 3700-lbs. This is the most the fully-loaded trailer is allowed to weigh. Since the various versions of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe have curb weights of 4000 to 4200-lbs you will definitely want to use a WD/SC system when towing the Lance. You will want to confirm that your trailer hitch's safety sticker says that it is rated for use with WD. If so, the weight capacities for this type of towing will be indicated.
I linked our page for all such systems. You will want to select one that matches your loaded tongue weight. You also need to factor in the weight of any cargo in the Santa Fe that sits behind the rear axle, say a loaded cooler or generator, as this cargo weight will act like trailer TW. You can load the trailer and measure its TW with scale # e99044 or you can estimate it. All WD systems work over a range of trailer TW so as long as your actual TW falls into that range you're good to go. I expect that your loaded TW will fall between 400- and 475-lbs.
A perfect option for this TW range is the all-inclusive Equal-I-zer system # EQ37060ET which handles TW up to 600-lbs. This includes the adjustable shank and a 2-inch hitch ball as shown in the linked video.
