What are Towing Capacities of Draw Tite Hitch # 76143 for 2017 Tesla Model X
Question:
Hey there, why is your model x hitch able to pull a higher tongue weight than the Tesla official one 500lbs? Also, why is it locked at 5000lbs? Could I hit 4800lbs on a trailer? can I use a weight distribution hitch?

Expert Reply:
The hitch part # 76143 by itself has a tongue weight capacity of 750 lbs and trailer capacity of 5,000 lbs. If your 2017 Tesla Model X had a lower towing capacity you would be limited to the lowest capacity of the setup. The hitch manufacturers design their hitches and then rate them for capacities separately from the vehicle.
This hitch is also not rated for weight distribution.
If your trailer weighed 4,800 lbs it would be 200 lbs underneath the capacity of the hitch so it would work well.
