The item you selected, Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118505, plugs in-line with the vehicles tail light connectors. You will need to access the wiring behind the tail light by removing the plastic trim pieces inside the vehicle. The connector with the Yellow wire will connect to the drivers side tail light harness.
Then, you will need to connect the White wire which is the ground to a clean metal surface. You can use an existing bolt to connect the ground wire.
Then, you will want to disconnect the negative battery terminal. Now you will need to run the red power wire to the positive battery terminal via included fuse and fuse holder. After connecting, you can reconnect the negative battery terminal.
After making all the connections, you will want to test the unit with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 or with the trailer connected.
Finally, you can mount the black box of part # 118505 to the interior trim panel using the included double-sided tape. After reinstalling the plastic trim panels that you removed, installation for the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118505, on your 2009 Toyota Prius is complete.
I have linked detailed instructions for the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118505.
