Is Sway Control Needed on Travel Trailer Towing Setup That Tows without Sway

Question:

I am looking at: Reese Friction Sway Control Kit - Economy - by Draw-Tite, Reese and Hidden Hitch I am pulling a 1983 HiLo 25L approx 3750 lbs dry wt with a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer 2WD, HD Tow Package, 4200 in-line 6cyl. I also use an automatic electronic brake controller to pull this trailer I bought it from eTrailer - thanks!. Is this Sway controller recommended for my set up? This is our first Travel Trailer so Im a rookie. Ive pulled a boat for years without sway control issues, but dont want to overlook any potential safety issues with a TT. We pulled our camper about 100 miles to get it home without any issues. A HiLo retracts to a lower tow position to avoid wind issues. See photo. Also, Im using a standard Reese tow bar that had to be flipped to level the trailer with the SUV, See photo.. Will this Sway control work with this hitch, or do I need to consider another set up? Thanks!

A friction sway control system like the part # 83660 that you referenced is designed to help stop sway that might start on the highway from wind or a semi-truck passing. If you aren't getting sway currently that's great. You may not need the sway control at all, but in reality the # 83660 being installed can't hurt.

Another tip for sway is that if you slide the manual override of your brake controller that usually pulls the trailer straight and stops the sway. You don't want to lock up the brakes so don't pull it all the way. Just enough to put some drag on the brakes.
