To install a trailer connector on your 1984 GMC 7000 you'll need to hardwire in a 4-way connector # 119250KIT and then add our # ETBC7 kit. This will provide the 7-way trailer connector on the truck and all the necessary wiring to connect a brake controller.
For a brake controller I suggest the Prodigy P2 # 90885 because of how reliable and easy to use it is. The P2 will need to be hardwired in the cab of the truck using the included pigtail. To hardwire the P2:
Black to 12V power
White to ground
Blue to 7-way trailer connector
Red to cold side of the stop light switch
The cold side of the stop light switch will be the wire that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed.
