Recommended Electric Over Hydraulic Trailer Brake Conversion for Dual 10K Axles

Question:

I have an Easy Haul Car Haul trailers with dual 10k Dexter Torsion axles and would like to convert to electric over hydraulic brakes. Can you direct me to the parts I would need to make this conversion. I assume I would need: - 2 sets of disk conversion kits 1 for each axle - the brake actuator - hardware to connect the actuator and the brakes - a breakaway kit Is there anything else? FYI we are using tractors with air brakes to pull this trailer and it currently has a Hayes Air-Actuated Brake Controller. Thank you

The Disc Brake Kit # K2R1058D13 by Kodiak is the brake set that you will need to use for your 10,000 lb Dexter Torsion axles.

When it comes to hardware, like the brake line, I recommend going with the HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit # HS496-252 which will wear better than other traditional brands. These lines are very flexible so the line is easy to maneuver under the trailer. The only downfall is that you cannot cut the line due to how hard and risky it is to do yourself. All you have to do is secure the excess line in a convenient, out-of-the-way place.

For a Brake Actuator, I recommend using the HydraStar Actuator # HBA16. This actuator is great because it resists overheating very well and has a faster response time than a lot of other actuators.

The one other thing that you will need is a breakaway kit. I recommend using the Hopkins BreakAway Kit and Charger with Tester # 20099. This is a small, weather resistant kit that has a built-in battery charger and features a tester to let you know if the battery is good, bad, or charging. Since it is smaller, you can easily install it on the frame of your trailer or your trailer jack.

Your Hayes Air Actuated Brake Controller, part # HA100400C, is compatible with this setup.

I am attaching some help articles and demonstration videos for you as well.
