Electric Over Hydraulic Braking System for Two 10K Oil Bath Trailer Axles

Question:

i have a chance to save a large some of money if i buy these used axles instead of new axles with electric brakes. is there a system that will let me hook up electric over hydraulic on these axles and have enough stopping power for a 20000 LB load ? and also that will work as maintenance free as electric brakes ?

By definition hydraulic brakes will never be as low maintenance as electric brakes. There are more parts involved so more that can wear out or go wrong. Electric over hydraulic adds even more components into the system. But you can certainly use an electric over hydraulic system.

You would need a system that matches the brake type: drum or disc. Drum brakes require a lower psi than disc brakes. I have included a link to the right to all of the electric over hydraulic actuators we carry. Drum brake models top out at 1000 psi. And disc brake actuators top out at 1600 psi.

Hydraulic brakes have more stopping power than electric brakes. You may need larger diameter brake lines though to increase response time. I have included a couple of links on adding electric over hydraulic drum or disc brakes to a trailer for you. The 20,000 pound capacity of the trailer is about the limit of these systems.
