Recommended Wiring Kit and Other Parts to Flat Tow a 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler and am planning an install of the following Alpha tow bar BX1118 baseplate BX8848 Diode light kit What is needed between the Jeep and the 7 pin connector on the RV. I want something on the Jeep to be covered like the 7 pin on the RV. The wiring kit only shows unterminated wires and no recommendation for a plug. What do you have that I could use that would work?

Instead of using the # BX8848 wiring kit and adding a connector and umbilical cord between the Wrangler and RV I would use the # RM-15267 kit which includes everything. It will make the installation much easier and have a cleaner look once installed. I've attached an installation video on a 2007 Wrangler Unlimited which will be very similar process to yours.

In reference to your other choices, the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar # BX7380 is an excellent choice and includes the safety cables. Also, the Base Plate Kit # BX1118 is a great fit as long as you have the U-channel bumper. If you don't let me know which bumper you have and I'll recommend the correct kit.

Another part you may need is a supplemental braking system. The SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 is a favorite around here because of how reliable it is and it's easier to install than many others. I've linked an install video of the DUO on a 2007 for you as well.

Finally, you'll likely need a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop your setup requries. I've also linked our selection of adapters for you to look at once you know what you need.

In addition to my recommendations I've linked some articles on flat towing that you may find helpful as well.
