Installing an Electric Trailer Brake Controller in a 2006 Honda Ridgeline

Question:

I am buying a 2006 Ridgeline RTL that came dealer/factory equipped with the tow package and hitch. At the back of the truck I see a 4 wire connector but not a 7 wire. I am confused about how much needs to be added to install a brake controller and 7 way trailer plug. I have read that if the vehicle is ordered with the tow package that there is a plug under the dash with blue tape that the brake controller plugs into. I have also read that there is a taped connector in the rear for the 7 way connector. Since this is a factory tow package, do I need to add the wiring to rear of the truck along with the circuit breakers and wiring to the battery, or is it already there? thank you

From what we've learned the 2006 Honda Ridgeline either came with a 7-way trailer connector from the factory or it didn't have any factory wiring at all. You might check the owner's manual or with Honda to verify what your specific Ridgeline was originially equipped with.

If you find you do already have the wiring and just need a 7-way connector at the rear then you can use # 37185. Then if you have the connector under your dash, for a brake controller I suggest the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This would plug in using # 3070-P.

If it turns out you do need to install the wiring you can use the same Prodigy P2 and hardware it into your Pilot under the dash. You would also use the kit for electric brakes, # ETBC7 to install the brake line circuit and 7-way.

I've attached some install videos and help articles you may also find useful.
